Buzzweld DTM Direct To Metal Satin Paint

Buzzweld DTM is a specially formulated Glass Flake Impregnated single application (when applied neat through airless spray or similar method) high build coating based on a fast-drying high solid alkyd resin.

DTM has excellent chip resistance, corrosion, and seawater resistance with benefits including:

TINTABLE

• Tintable INCLUDING COLOUR – Aerosols come pre-loaded, ready to use. Tintable tins will come with a separate color tin. Simply add this at 10%, mix well, and use.
• Tintable NO COLOUR – Your order will contain 10% less product so you can add tint yourself. Example: A 1L Schutz tin will contain 900ML of product, allowing space for 100ML of tint. Tint can be ordered separately here.

Suitability

Compatible with most fully cured paint systems, DTM is suitable for protecting a range of prepared steel surfaces, from chassis and underbody to axles, bodywork, and more.

Preparation

1. Ensure surfaces are dry, clean, and free from grease, dirt, and other contamination.
2. Remove scale and rust and prepare to a minimum ST3.
3. Apply two coats: initially 100 microns wet, followed by a brief dry-off period, then a further application of up to 200 microns.
4. Allow to dry for approx. 3 hours before handling.
5. If applying a thicker/textured coating, ensure plenty of fresh warm air (min 15°C) during the first 24 hours to avoid solvent entrapment and extended cure times.

Application Methods

• Aerosol – Typically 4 coats. Ensure the film is at least 100 microns DFT, 180+ microns for aggressive blasting.
• Schutz tin spray – Applied neat, 60-75 PSI typically.
• Tinned:
  • Brush/roller application.
  • PCL 90-150 PSI, nozzle fully out.
  • FX10 Underbody Gun 75 PSI, nozzle fully out.
  • Airless – Tip 0.38-0.53 mm, 50-65° angle, 2000-2300 PSI pressure.

Properties

Pros

• Cost-effective protection for steel surfaces.
• Available in various colors and application methods.

Cons

• Corrosion must be remedied before application.
• Requires ample fresh warm/dry air when applied in large areas or thicker coats.

• BLACK – Standard black-colored DTM.
• TINTABLE – DTM provided with a separate pot of color of your choice (almost any color available!).
• PLATINUM – The highest-grade DTM, infused with compounds to enhance:
  • Sound Deadening – Limits sound transfer.
  • Resonance Suppression – Actively reduces panel vibrations.
  • Thermal Insulative Properties – Reduces heat loss and improves energy efficiency.
  • Ceramic Enhancement – Increases resistance to abrasion, gouging, and porosity.

By selecting the Platinum option, you are purchasing the highest-grade DTM available. For maximum sound and thermal insulation, we recommend applying DTM over Cosyfoam.

Product Types

• 1000ml Paint Tin – Suitable for brush/roller application, thinning, and spraying.
• 1000ML Schutz Undercoating Tin – Compatible with FX10 Spraygun and FX11 Spraygun. Standard Schutz guns require a pickup tube trim of 75mm.
• 5000ml Paint Tin – Standard tin for brush/roller application, thinning, and spraying.
• 400ML Aerosol (Traditional) – Standard aerosol.
• 400ML Buzzweld Powercan – Uses no thinner, delivering the same output as a spray gun. Provides fewer coats but higher film build. Requires spraying from a greater distance and includes two nozzles for texture control.
