Chassis Guard Pro Kit From £74.98
1. Preparation
The cleaner the vehicle is the more effective Chassis Guard Lanolin will be. Remove mud as a minimum. To get the most from the product we recommend you clean the underside with a pressure washer, remove flaking rust / paint and grease where possible. Temper your expectations with the preparation you will do. Fxdegreaser can be applied to the underside via a snow foam gun to assist with the cleaning.
Chassis Guard & Chassis Guard Pro can be applied to sound and stable corrosion, as well as over existing treatments and coatings. When applied to heavier corrosion Chassis guard will attempt to penetrate, seal, and eventually push the corrosion off the surface leaving a lightly corroded surface. If you do leave heavier corrosion do two coats in these areas, and inspect more regularly until the process is complete.
There is no need to mask up electrics, exhausts and the engine bay. To limit fuming we recommend not applying chassis guard to very hot surfaces, or ones that will become very hot. If you do accidently coat these areas wipe off any excess with a rag (DPF, Turbo, Exhaust manifold / downpipe etc).
2. Protecting the area around you
Before you begin applying the lanolin rustproofing coating, we recommend you take some basic precations.
- Sheet off the floor to catch any dripping during application.
- If it is windy, it would be an idea to sheet off anything valueable next to the area such as a neighbours car (you can wipe down surfaces with an APC, Eco-Solvent, or White Spirit if you make a mess anywhere)
3. Apply the coating
If you have chosen to jet-wash the underside, or it is wet, you can save significant energy, time and improve the longevity of the protection by using Splash Dewatering Agent. You can also use Splash if the vehicle is dry and you simply wish to be more thorough.
What is the difference between Splash and Chassis Guard?
Splash has the ability to be applied to wet surfaces, such as corroded chassis / underbody, or even new vehicles. What it does is seal the surface, and push moisture out of the seams and corrosion. Further Splash adds several months of additional protection to any lanolin coating. You can use splash to dry the underside of the vehicle, and add additional protection whether you jet washed or not. Some coating providers sell a grease which can be messy, and attracts dirt and dust. We chose to provide Splash as this actually assists you in your process of getting the underside dry (especially useful in winter), as well as be incredibly quick and easy to do.
Once the vehicle is dry (with or without Splash), you are ready to apply chassis guard.
- Unscrew the nozzle two turns to allow air to escape the trigger
- Remove the bottle cap, and place the pickup tube into the bottle, screwing the cap down firmly.
- Pull the trigger, and continue to do so until the fluid is pulled up the pipe. In most cases pulling the trigger fully, and slowly multiple times works best.
- Once the tube is full of Chassis Guard continue using the trigger whilst turning the nozzle back to its original position. Before the nozzle closes you are looking for a spray pattern not a jet. Keep screwing the nozzle closed until you get a spray / mist pattern.
- Apply the coating from all angles to all relevant surfaces under the vehicle. Complicated areas can be sprayed from multiple angles to get everything coated.
- Chassis Guard uses a Gloss Indicator to tell you if a surface is porous. Once applied and the coating starts to dry, any areas that are dull are porous, and should be topped up. This is the coating soaking in, and tell you the area needs some additional protection, as the surface will accept more coating. Typically this is on thicker corrosion only.
Lanolin Cavity protection Kit
If you opted for the bolt -on cavity protection kit your process is as follows
- Complete steps 1&2 as above.
- Apply splash to the cavities using the aerosols provided.
- Apply splash to the underside as per step 3.
- allow to dry
- Apply Chassis Guard to the Cavities
- Apply Chassis Guard Externally
You only need to allow Splash to be tacky or touch dry prior to applying chassis guard. If it is fully dry this is also fine. It is very tolerant.
We recommend you clean the nozzles of the sprayers using white spirit, eco solvent, or our 1K multi thinner after use. As a minimum screw the nozzle closed otherwise it can siphon from the bottle if the trigger is left lower than the fluid.
Aftercare
We recommend leaving the vehicle for at least 24 hours prior to use. Chassis Guard, and Chassis Guard Pro use an polymerisation to cure faster than other lanolins, so this time period is usually sufficient. It can take a few more days to fully harden. If applied very thick, The coating can take longer, and have a slight tack- This is the tradeoff for even higher levels of protection. To avoid this, apply in fully covering lighter coats.
Chassis guard and Chassis Guard pro DO FULLY CURE. The reason for this is because self healing coatings do not exist beyond a VCI. Many lanolins are being sold as self healing, and what actually happens is they have a tendancy to have a low heat tolerance, and drip everywhere in hotter weather. Our coating does not do that. A fully cured coating is less susceptible to contamination, dirt pickup, moisture ingress, and is easier to maintain.
Topup
Chassis Guard and Chassis Guard pro are easier to topup than some other lanolin coatings. The reason for this is they are less likely to need thoroughly cleaning prior to topup, and they also clean don easier when they do. Our kits tend to include spare product for even larger 4x4's so you have the first topup or more covered. We recommend you inspect every 6 months as you should with any vehicle underbody. Topups in high wear areas are 6>12 months typically, but keep an eye on them. Chassis Guard pro will las longer than Chassis Guard.
Other Uses
Chassis Guard has a multitude of other uses. It can be used as a patina preserve, trim restorer, show shine for agricultural vehicles, Restore colour and depth to bedliner coatings and much much more.
